MISSION
STATEMENT
BeHold is committed to empowering people and organizations in the human
services field so that they may continue to provide their essential
services. BeHold models the truth, integrity and self-empowerment needed
to make service work sustainable. These principles are at the foundation
of the holistic healing and educational programs we provide.
“BEHOLD”
It is customary in certain African towns when greeting people with a
“hello” to hear the response “I see you.” To
know that you are seen, that you are recognized as whole
and complete right where and as you are, is the most remarkable acknowledgement
that anyone can receive. This is the heart-space from which BeHold was
founded. The concept is pure and simple—we see each and every
person as being whole, unique, and a profound contributor to their world.
Every human being is overflowing with the pure potential of their own
creativity, their own magnificent expression.
WHO
WE SERVE
BeHold works with non-profit and other organizations that are often
running on reserves or running on empty. Our core concept and efforts
are unique in that we are focusing on supporting the staff of these
organizations rather their clients: staff personnel who are often the
overlooked and overworked community heroes working as social workers,
health care workers, youth center staff, to name just a few.
WHY
WE MATTER
There already exists an amazing labor pool of dedicated human service
workers who have the training, experience, and compassion to make a
difference in countless lives. With over 25,000 non-profit organizations
already in the Los Angeles area, we chose to re-envision our idea of
“community” instead of creating another “grassroots”
organization. Rather than lose these workers to the effects of compassion
fatigue, BeHold is stepping in to support and fully ignite the passion,
drive, and love that lead them to a career of service to begin with.
While we may not be able to directly change the structure or resources
of an organization, we can definitely impact their workers’ own
understanding of who they are and how to be of service.
By getting
human service workers to show up to work and feel inspired to contribute,
a huge “domino” effect of efficiency and wellness occurs.
As individual human service workers are revitalized and modeling a new
way of service without sacrifice, they expand their capacity for caring
and participating fully in their jobs. This shift makes the organizations
and programs that they represent significantly more productive and effective.
The clients who are served by the organization, programs, and human
services workers then receive the best possible care and have the biggest
opportunity of life transformation.
It is a
pyramid approach of sorts whereby targeting the human service worker,
who operates at the center of the pyramid, the potential impact of social
change becomes exponential!

Put another
way, if BeHold serves six non-profit agencies that each have 20 human
service workers participate in our program, and each of those workers
interacts with 100 clients in a year, the end result would be BeHold
serving 12,120 people annually in the Los Angeles area! Further, each
agency that used our services would be benefiting their own staff and
target population while expanding the organization’s overall capacity
for service, creative expression and innovative solutions (i.e. new
programs, expanded outreach, or increased funding sources).
Lasting
change occurs for care providers as they make a commitment to care for
themselves: by taking the time to focus on their own needs and by looking
within themselves for a sense of value, contribution and self-empowerment.
As workers regain their passion and sense of self, organizations will
reach new levels of effectiveness with a revitalized veteran workforce.
BeHold and
their client agencies then work in partnership to build pathways to
active harmony and peace in community.
GLOBAL
COMMUNITY
Many life experiences can adversely affect a person’s passion,
purpose, and sense of self. BeHold is an active force in keeping passion,
purpose, and the “sacred self” alive and flourishing. By
alleviating obstacles such as stress, self-doubt, and fear we empower
individuals to embrace their own brilliance. Every person is a key player
in life. As we know more fully and authentically who we really are,
positive change and real growth is realized exponentially.
BeHold is
an organization that upholds the principles of personal responsibility,
integrity and peace. We teach tools of self-exploration and self-empowerment.
We know that every person, every organization who we work with is a
pathway to global peace and harmony. By starting right here, right where
we are, peace becomes a real possibility. Peace is an active force that
exists within each of us.
